Everyone has got in the wardrobe a pair of old jeans, old fashioned or in the wrong size, with this tutorial you can learn how to rycicle and turn your old jeans into a new bag, perfect for summer!
Supplies:
– jeans;
– colored cotton fabric for lining;
– needle and thread;
First of all, you need to measure about 40 cm from the waist, then draw a horizontal line and cut along it. Don’t throw away the “legs”, you’ll need them for doing handles. Unstitch along the crotch, also on the back.
Fix the edge of the waist with pins, that because usually jeans are lower on the front and taller on the back, the bag otherwise must have the same height. Now you can close the frontal slit of the crotch.
To close the posterior slit just cut a rectangle from a leg, fix it under the slit and sew up all around.
Turn up the jeans and stitch the bottom.
Now you have to sew the corners of the bag in order to creare a more capacious bottom.
Turn up the bag, this is how it should look like:
Now let’s prepare the lining: it is a simple sack create with the same measures of the bag (base and height) with 5 cm plus for the height.
Before sewing the lining at the bag, you have to make handles; to obtain a more colorful effect, I have done them half in jeans and half with the same colored fabric used for the lining. You need 4 rectangles, 2 made by jeans, 2 made by cotton, wide 5 cm and height 60 cm. Just remember to leave 0,5 cm for the stitches.
Now we can put together the pieces: first sew handles, then the lining.
The bag is almost ready, let’s add the last decoration: the sash! In this way we can use belt loops! The method is the same that we used for the hadles: 2 rectangles sewn on the wrong side face eahc other and then turned up.
Your amazing bag is finished! Now you can enjoy it!
So, don’t throw away your old jeans, but convert them in a new fashionable accessory! Have you try? Let me know how it was! 🙂
